Community Involvement

Through its Nationally-sanctioned skating program, the BSC provides youth in Barrie and the surrounding area with fitness and athletic skills, and also builds a sense of confidence and self-esteem through various exhibitions and competitions which take place throughout the year. The BSC’s figure skaters develop an appreciation for skating as well as for both classical and contemporary music which forms an integral part of a skating program. Young skaters work in groups as well as on their own to hone their skills. Our coaches mentor young skaters preparing them for the challenges of competitive skating while instilling the values of good sportsmanship. Social opportunities for older skaters include volunteering as “program assistants” to assist in coaching younger skaters, as well as volunteering to help run fund-raising events, competitions, and our end of year carnival ice-show. The BSC strives to achieve a feeling of community and team, and provides a positive recreational activity for our youth.
